San Martin de Porres is a very isolated community in the San Andres district of the amazon region of Bolivia. San Martin consists of 25 families whose main economic activities are subsistence agriculture and fishing. There is no access to running water or electricity.
In this community we created an education reinforcement program to bring students up to State grade levels. It operates out of a “library” that was built for our program by parents in the community using materials contributed by the Municipality of San Andres.
We hired and trained a teacher to teach mathematical reasoning, reading comprehension, critical thinking, and creativity utilizing innovative methodologies and local indigenous knowledge.
We also provided school supplies and computers for the library.
