Ok, maybe this is not the 6 ‘ ft tall basketball player you know but, really, his name is Michael Jordan – and he is the FIRST Manos Unidas student working in a Cusco hotel.
When you arrive at Ninos Hotel, you will be greeted by Michael. He will open the door, help you carry in your luggage and lead you to the reception desk. His co-workers love him and give him high-5’s in passing.
Michael travels 1.5 hours each way everyday to Cusco. When he is not working at the hotel he is helping in the Phawarispa Student Cafe, Organic Garden or playing the Peruvian cajon and dancing.
Phawarispa, a Dr. Cynthia Baker project, is Manos Unidas Vocational Training Program for youth with special needs. It is changing lives. It is changing Michael’s life. There are currently NO work training programs in Cusco for youth like Michael- WE ARE THE FIRST.
Manos Unidas is giving Hope. We are a creating a future that did not exist. We are creating jobs and giving meaning to life.
Thank you for joining me in this lifetime effort to give our students a solid future.
Sincerely,
Celeste Marion
