There are few certainties. A hard to accept fact of life, but one that is clearly highlighted in the context of traveling in the jungle.
- The municipality is loaning us their 40hp outboard motor, which we mount on the long wooden boat of Don Wilfredo, a community leader and parent from Monte Cristo, in order to head 10 hours up river and visit the projects there. Problem: the motor is ruined. Someone forgot to mix oil into the gasoline and the motor has to be repaired, but there are no funds to repair it.
- The municipality is borrowing a 40hp outboard motor from a neighboring municipality to loan to us so we can mount it on the long wooden boat of Don Wilfredo, a community leader and parent from Monte Cristo, in order to head 10 hours up river and visit the projects there. Problem: there is something terribly wrong with this motor. There are many opinions as to what the problem is, but all agree that this motor will not get us to Monte Cristo.
- Don Wilfredo will use his own 25hp outboard motor mounted on his long, wooden boat to head 10 hours up river and visit the projects there. Problem: with a 25hp motor we will arrive in 30 hours, not 10, and we would miss the planned visits.
- The municipality is paying for half of the flight in a prop plane in order to fly 30 minutes South and visit the projects there. We will meet Don Wilfredo in two days.
And so begins another trip in the jungle!
