Alma has partnered with El Arca Children’s Home to help provide high quality education to 25 children in Puerto Maldonado. El Arca not only gives children a second chance in life but also provides them with a high quality education.
El Arca’s new location is near Puerto Maldonado, in the Peruvian Amazon jungle. It is home to children aged 2 years old to 18 years old. It is an oasis, providing a safe yet challenging environment where the children can learn, play, explore and grow. Here they can build character and learn responsibility and self-discipline. The children are provided with both elementary and secondary level education. They also are trained in agronomy and animal husbandry, English, dance and arts, midwifery, mechanics, plumbing, electrical, computation, sewing, and business management.
One of the main goals of El Arca is to address a general crisis in the area of reading comprehension and retention. Curricula and activities are designed to help children learn to think and reason, to foresee change and adapt to whatever their future may hold. El Arca strives to not only take children off of the streets, but also to make the children productive citizens who can make a difference for many others like them.
