In Bolivia, it is a tradition to celebrate carnivals with dances and balloons. Tilata families and most of the families of the Sariry Foundation, usually perform “ch’alla” which is a ritual to thank the Pachamama (Mother Earth) for material goods such as house, car, furniture and etc. The goods are decorated with streamers and balloons of various colors, flowers (as a symbol of joy), candy as a symbol of growth and appreciation.
Carnival is one of the finest events and demonstration of Aymara and Andean traditions. Children are allowed to play freely. For them these are moments of joy and fun. They usually play with balloons inflated with water and foam.
It is possible to hear folk music bands and dancing everywhere.
In Sariry Foundation, we take this time to reflect on the meaning and significance of carnivals in their families, in their personal lives and in the life of the community. For many young children we use this time to motivate them to study, plan their lives to enable them to develop as individuals and as valuable part of the community.
